I recently bought a Freecom 500GB network drive for backup and sharing files on my home network.
I can access it via wireless on my Vista laptop and read/write to it with Dolphin and Krusader in Mandriva. I can also use the sync function in Krusader but it is so slooooow! Therefore I want to use Grsync but for that the drive needs to be mounted, that is where the problem lies!
I have tried mounting it via the Mandriva control centre and I have tried the following:
Code:
[root@ASUS900 david]# mount //192.168.1.68/PUBLIC /mnt/freecom -t cifs
This gave the following error:
Code:
mount error: can not change directory into mount target /mnt/freecom
So I created a folder in /mnt called freecom and tried again, this time I got:
Code:
[root@ASUS900 david]# mount //192.168.1.68/PUBLIC /mnt/freecom -t cifs
Password:
mount error(12): Cannot allocate memory
Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g. man mount.cifs)
[root@ASUS900 david]#
Unless I can find some was of mounting the drive it looks like an expensive mistake and i should have stuck to a USB drive.
I've got the same problems with my Freecom Network Drive and Ubuntu 9.10, did you have any luck resolving this?
I am afraid not, I did a LOT of of searching and it seems this particular drive just cannot be mounted in Linux. It actually doesn't work very well with Windows Vista either! To be fair I think the fact that I am using an O2 router is also an issue.
I hope you all got this working by now, but after hours of frustration I got mine to mount as a public shared network drive.
The line in my /etc/fstab line is:
//192.168.0.253/share/music /home/mike/Music cifs uid=1000,gid=1001,file_mode=0777,dir_mode=0777,guest,rw,sec=none,nounix
squaredoffagain, you're a star! This works! I'd started having another go at this recently and got it to mount but only with read access but your fstab entry did it with full access! Thanks very much.
