Cannot join a Linux computer to a Windows 2000 server domain
using the command smbpasswd

I have two windows 2000 server and both are part of the domain named weboffice.net

server # 1: win-2000-server
server # 2: win2000server1

server # 1 is the top most computer in the domain weboffice
server # 2 then joined server# 1.
Both server belongs to a domain name of weboffice.net
Both server can replicate to each other just fine.

When I joined a Linux computer to a win-2000-server using the
smbpasswd command as shown below it worked.

smbpasswd -j weboffice -r win-2000-server -U administrator%password_100

When I joined the same Linux computer to a win2000server1 using the smbpasswd command as shown below, it result in an error

smbpasswd -j weboffice -r win2000server1 -U administrator%password_100

Error connecting to win2000server1

I receive the same error.
Anyone have any suggestions????

Set the security to password server, input the domain controller IP address.

I did that earlier, but it still did not work. One person told me that, I could not joined a Linux computer to the other windows 2000 server PDC is because the second one does not have a writable copy of the global catalog. Its global catalog is read only. This is why I got that error.

Are both servers part of the same domain?

If both servers are part of the same domain there is no need to join the linux box to both servers. Once you join it to one it will replicate to the other domain servers.

Both win 2000 server belongs to the same domain (please read the previous email posting on this same thread.). You are correct. I was trying to join to the secondary machine to test just in case if the prmary win 2000 server PDC is down, would a Linux computer be able to join the secondary win 2000 server ? The answer is no.

did you remove the computer account from the domain before trying to join the second time?

I delete the Linux computer account on both server, then I joined it to win2000server1 and it worked.
I guess, sometime the computer account is corrupted, and must be delete.

Nothing to do with corruption. When you join server A is also replicates to server B. You can not join the same computer to a domain twice. This is why you were getting your errors.

I did delete the Linux computer account on both machine as you have suggested.

I just tried to joined to win-2000-server and then joined to
win2000server1, and back to win-2000-server and it all worked.

Can you explain the reason ?
