Hello
I am trying to connect to my Linux Box from my XP Box using TightVNC. Both machines are on the same subnet.
Everything compiled fine, vncserver is also running fine, i use nmap to check the ports are also open. But when i try connecting from the client, it says failed to connect to Server. What am i missing?
Your firewall settings on the XP box should be opened as well. If you are using the firewall, open up a 'zone' on your class C network (192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.255) or whatever zone your router is using. Symantec and zonealarm also work the same way.
Had the same problem. I just had to manually type the :5901 for the port after the IP and it connected with TightVNC. Maybe you've done that already, but it wasn't obvious to me.

Thanks for the 'heads up' on the :5901 port parameter. It fixed things for me.
