Can see network, but can't connect

I am installing Ubuntu 10.04

I have a Netgear wg511 network card

I have installed the windows driver using ndiswrapper

The network card enables me to see lots of wifi networks including my own. But nothing happens when I try to connect

I can open my network under Network Connections, but I cannot see the internet

Any help greatly appreciated

If you have something like that, you are actually connected. If it's saying "not associated" instead of the MAC address of the router, you're in trouble. Read the man pages on the commands you might use
iwconfig ifconfig, iwlist, dhcpcd (or dhclient) wpa_passphrase, wpa_supplicant

Also check out linuxwireless.org.

I can get a MAC address etc. But after 10 seconds it drops and I get Not-associated again. Even when I have a MAC address I can't use the internet

What's your wifi card? Have you drivers? Have you firmware?
http://www.linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers

Go through the steps listed here for your wifi card.
