Can ping others, but can't ping myself !

Hello there,

I've got this little problem which must be easily (I think so) resolved by someone who knows. Here is it :

I've a Linux box connected to à WinXP box on a LAN,
My Linux box have @IP=192.168.0.2
And my WinXP have @IP=192.168.0.1.

From the Linux box :
ping 192.168.0.1 (the WinXP) is ok,
ping localhost (or 127.0.0.1) is not ok (no answer),
ping 192.168.0.2 (myself) is not ok (no answer),

From the WinXP box :
ping 192.168.0.1 (myself is ok),
ping 192.168.0.2 (the Linux one) is not OK (no answer).

Notice that ftp, mail, http is ok on the both boxes (WinXp can browse or ftp on the Linux box, retrieve mail and so one).

It's seems to be an icmp problem or misconfiguration.

I've removed all iptables config to see, but noting is better.

Have someone an idea of what is happening ?

I use Mandrake9.1 in High security level (just under the paranoïac config level).

If both systems are connected to the same router, which it appears as though they are, sometimes things get a bit flakey. I have had similar problems, but everything else seems to work, e.g. printer sharing, file sharing, etc.

See if you are ignoring pings:
grep "" /proc/sys/net/ipv4/icmp_echo*

If they return 1 then echo 0 to each file and you should be OK.

OK. Than'ks the problem was that there is 1 in /proc/sys/net/ipv4/icmp_echo_ignore_all

Putting 0 in it resolve the problem.

Thank's
