Can not connect to internet. Please help.
 

i have my system dual boot. Fedora 19 + windows 7.
But am not able to connect to the internet.
my net need a client to be installed before i can connect to the internet and i have to do the settings manually.
i have configured it properly.
i downloaded the client and installed it.
when i executed the file, it is taking userid and asking for password but displays an error "could not find hardware address"
but mac address is visible in network settings.
What to do???
Please help :(

I'm assuming some kind of VPN

what kind of connection and what kind of client? this sounds like a xDSL type connection requiring 3rd party software. If that is the case, you might be better off just buying a router that can handle the type of connection (aDSL PPPoE or PPPoA or ext...) if that is the case then i would encourage you to invest in a SoHo router to perform that task for you anyways. you will see much better connection speeds and improved stability in your connection as well as better performance from your computer as you will not be negotiating your connection as well as having the TCP/IP connection to contend with.

if you are not able/willing to invest in a router then you will need to provide much more information about your connection, its type, and the client and its configuration you are using in BOTH OSs. dont worry about user/pw info just put username password for us to see, but everything else we will need to see in code flags please.

My connection is basically through LAN which is connected to the main server which itself acts as DNS and my Gateway. As this is a local connection and they have around 100 clients, so they are using LAN cable.

so a school perhaps? if so then contact their IT and use them to help get this resolved. it maybe they refuse to support Linux. if that is the case depending on were you live in the world you might have to threaten legal action to get them off their butts to fix their connection problems.

my network people have no idea what the hell is linux :P

I'm guessing that client is not compatible with your newer version of Fedora. If your ISP is too clueless to provide you with a working client I suggest you go directly to the 24online site and have a hunt there for a working client.

i downloaded the latest version from there and when i contacted their online support, they replied that they do not help the end users :/
they only provide support to the isp and my isp is so great that they said to me, they can take away the connection but they can not fix it. :/

With such terrible support I strongly suggest that you change to a different provider. Your current provider does not deserve your business.

However, if you want to keep trying, please tell us what happened when using the new client (and where you downloaded it from etc).

Ofc i would have changed the ISP if i would have the option.
But the place where i live, this is the only ISP here.
I Stay at the outskirts of the state because my college is situated there :(
