I take it you're connecting through a gateway on the LAN? You'll need to tell your ethernet card about this. You'll need to find out the IP address of the box you connect through, then add the following line to your /etc/sysconfig/network file (assuming it's 192.168.12.254):
Code:
GATEWAY=192.168.12.254
If you can't find out the IP address easily, a lot of networks use DHCP to configure the ins and outs. If your network is DHCP-configured, then you should be able to get all the settings automatically (and thus connect) by changing your ifcfg-eth0 file to:
Code:
DEVICE=eth0
BOOTPROTO=dhcp
ONBOOT=yes
Note: I use Debian personally, so I can't guarantee that there isn't another step involved in setting up DHCP in Red Hat. It
should work straight off the bat, though.
