LinuxQuestions.org - Can I Multicast?

Hi.

Ive been looking into the possibilty of streaming live media to multiple "outside world" media players from my home computer, over a residential broadband connection. Obviously bandwidth is an issue and Multicasting seems to be the more desirable option in comparison to Unicasting.

Im using Helix Server, and reading through the Admin Manual, it says...

To use multicasting, Helix Universal Server, media players, routers, switches, and all other networking devices between them must be multicast-enabled. For this reason, multicasting is primary used on intranets. However, it is possible to deliver multicasts over the Internet where intermediary network devices have been multicast-enabled. Before using multicasting, verify the following with your network administrator:

* Routers and all equipment in your network are multicast-enabled.

* The machine running Helix Universal Server is correctly configured for multicast support.

Before i start trying to configure any software or anything, does anyone know if this is generally available over residential broadband? Does Multicasting generally require something a bit more specialised from my ISP?

Ill contact my ISP if you guys think it could be possibly, they do tend to take a good few days to reply though, so id rather not have to wait if you guys think the answer is a definate no!
