I have a Debian stable box set up that acts as my firewall/DHCP/router/web server/samba file sharing wonder-box.

I can access the web from any client connected to the server, but if I SSH to the server and attempt to make the server update software I will get an error that the connection has timed out. Trying to ping sites while SSH'd to the server will also result in errors.

The machine has two network cards (1 to the cable modem, 1 to my network switch). At one point in time it did work properly, so I have no idea what changed to make it act this way.

Any takers?

Is the route setup properly? What about its own DNS entries?

I believe that my iptables route is set up properly because the clients that use the server for dhcp and as a gateway can get out to the net. I just cant access the net from the server itself.

I will check the DNS for the server itself.
