If I want to know beforehand whether a distro will run my network easily, is there any reason I can't test the network on the distro's liveCD, if it has one? Does the nature of a liveCD interfere with its connecting to the network, for any reason?
Most live-cd's will not keep your data over a reboot. There are some that will write their changes to a usb drive so they can be rebooted, other then that you can use a live-cd to test, that is their main use.

I agree strongly. In fact, Knoppix has me so impressed, I follow www.distrowatch.com for the other Distros that have similar builds. Some of the benefits are: A) seeing the hardware listed B) seeing the hardware perform vs. the software C) application choosing before applying settings D) make a list of the pros and cons,...so later YOU can decide which is best for YOUR AA) preferences BB) productivity CC) software DD) hardware.
Uhhmaybe, Knoppix is my favorite distro. Knoppix forever. But it isn't designed for hard drive use, as far as I know, so I can't make it my regular distro.

It isn't designed for hard drive use however I believe it has a hard drive install option
