Question Can't reach network with different distros -- IPv6 issue??

Hi,

I was using SuSE 8.2 on a laptop dual booted with XP. I felt like testdriving other distros, so I installed RH9 to replace SuSE.

My problem is that I can't get out onto my local network or subsequently the
Internet since I did this. Would this problem be caused by the fact that IPv6 doesn't appear to be running? I put in the SuSE 8.2 LiveEval and all connects well. I ran ifconig -a on both setups, and the results are below.
I'm not using DHCP...I set up a static IP address in both cases.

Here's the RH9 result:

eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:40:CA:BC:8F:FB
inet addr:192.168.1.22 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:100
RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b)
Interrupt:9 Base address:0xc000
lo Link encap:Local Loopback
inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0
UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1
RX packets:50 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:50 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
RX bytes:5974 (5.8 Kb) TX bytes:5974 (5.8 Kb)

and the SuSE result:

eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:40:CA:BC:8F:FB
inet addr:192.168.1.22 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0

TX packets:24 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0

RX bytes:4876 (4.7 Kb) TX bytes:1995 (1.9 Kb)
Interrupt:10 Base address:0x6000
lo Link encap:Local Loopback
inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0
inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host
UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1
RX packets:40 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:40 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
RX bytes:2608 (2.5 Kb) TX bytes:2608 (2.5 Kb)

sit0 Link encap:IPv6-in-IPv4
NOARP MTU:1480 Metric:1
RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b)

I also tried Knoppix and Mandrake 9.1 and got the same results as RH.

Another thing I can't figure out is why RH assigns the NIC IRQ 9 while SuSE
gives it IRQ 10.

Any advice?

Thanks
