Can't print to a network printer
I am running a mixed environment in my home -- a windows laptop, a dual boot PC, and 2 linux PCs, with a Linksys router providing connectivity, internet access, and connection -- via a NetGear print server -- to my HP printer. I'm running SuSE 9.0 on the linux / dual boot PCs. Windoze sees the printer and prints fine. In linux, the dual boot PC sees the print server, is able to access it, and can send jobs to it. Unfortunately, the print jobs look like staggered jibberish:
<000D>8 251 AT
........................<000B>8 259 AT
................................................<0006>8 267 AT
........................................................................<000B>8 275 AT
(without the dots) etc.,
followed by continuous blank pages. The actual text above seems to vary, but the format is consistant.
I've tried configuring LPRng as well as CUPS, and cannot get successful print jobs coming out of linux.
1) Should I be leaning one way or the other with LPRng and CUPS -- is one more suited to my situation than the other? I first tried LPRng without success, and then removed the package and loaded CUPS with the same results (although at first CUPS looked more promising). I've got "foomatic-rip" and the hpijs patch ready to go, we're just not going anywhere!
2) What am I not getting? Okay, I'll ask a simpler question -- Can someone help me get my PC talking to my printer so I don't have to regress to windoze?
Thanks in advance for your help!!!
