Can't Ping Gateway

I have a debian server and can't ping the gateway. it can ping other machines in the same subnet but not the ones on different subnet. I have added the gateway.using arp I can tell that the gateway has the right MAC. any idea how to resolve this ? other servers in the switch can ping the gateway. I have tried to switch the port and still same result.

One possibility is you are running a firewall, they can block pings. Any other reason, as far as I know, would be outside the server itself. Possibly routing to the gateway?
