Can't delete files graphically on network share

Hello all,

Here's the situation. There is a test/development environment here at work with some windows and some CentOS systems connecting over a network share to a CentOS fileserver in the data center. The developers run as root (i know i know, but the environment is completely cut off from the rest of the company and this just worked best) and connect to the fileserver using samba. I tried using nfs but to no avail. Now, a couple of the developers have no issues with permissions at all but a couple of them are not able to delete files or folders in their network share graphically. They can through terminal though.

Any ideas?

thanks in advance

The samba client on Windows graphically convert Linux file permission to Windows file permission and then file operation will base on the permission.

Press F5 after you try to delete to refresh view maybe.

Well we get the same result if we create a file on the linux fileserver(through either terminal or graphically) from a linux developers system and then try to delete that file (graphically). it seems as if the permissions are working correctly through terminal, but not at all graphically.

although, a file created locally can be deleted using either method

so its only over the network share and its only graphically that a file can't be deleted

You can compare Linux file permission between two cases and may find out some clue. Linux file permission is more complex than Windows.
