Hello all,
Installed is suse 10.1 using a dual boot system with xp. I am having a problem getting my internet connection working. I have an external zoom modem that will work with xp. When I connect to the internet, kinternet shows that I'm connected and if I check on the phone I get the normal modem sounds but I can't browse the internet with firefox. I have tried to ping www.google.com and I get 'ping: unknown host www.google.com'. When I ping 72.14.207.99 I get 'connect: Network is unreachable'. Can anyone give me instructions on how to troubleshoot this issue. Any help will be appreciated.
Distribution: Mandriva 2009 X86_64 suse 11.3 X86_64 Centos X86_64 Debian X86_64 Linux MInt 86_64 OS X

Rep:
Are you using a dial up modem ?
If so kinterenet ask you a lot of questions , like password , account name by you're provider , number to dial and so
on are all this items correct
Thanks Larry Webb, ronlau9, and kirk911 for your replies.
My Modem is a Zoom 56k v.92/v.90, Model 3049.
I may need a driver as you suggest. If you could point me the right direction concerning the driver I need to install, I would certainly give it a try.
I have had this set up working before, about a year ago. Then I put my zoom external modem aside and starting using the internet via a broadband satellite connection. So I believe that I have the setting for the modem e.g.,(username, password, phone number...) entered correctly.
I don't know what saving the kppp setup really means, so I not sure if that has been done correctly or not. Could you give more information on that?
AS a side note, while I had the broadband setup I spent a considerable amount of time trying to set up a Linux/Windows Samba network, and I wonder if I could have changed something then that is causing me problems now.
I re-read your first post and you may not have the server addresses correct. If it the same modem on the same computer a year ago it should not have any driver problems. Recheck your kinternet entries.
