I recently installed Mandriva 2005LE on a company computer. I am trying to connect to the internet (through a proxy server). When I try to connect through Konqueror, I almost get the the Border Manager login page, but get the error:
Connection to host border is broken
When I try to use FireFox, I get the error:
The proxy server cannot be found. Please check your proxy settings and try again.
I get a local IP address fine, and I can ping the border server. I have tried the proxy name (proxy.airsep.com) and IP address (172.16.1.3) in the proxy settings of Konqueror/FireFox.
who administers the proxy server? this would probably be a good question for him or her. from all of my experience, i simply put the proxies IP and port number into the browser and it always works fine.
Make sure to check if there is some sort of authentication required. At my work, they use MS ISA as a proxy server with NTLM authentication. This makes it a pain to use Konqueror, as it doesn't do NTLM. I can get around this by setting up another proxy that authenticates on my behalf, though.
I spoke with the network administrator and he has no idea. We use Novell Border Manager as a proxy server. When I use Konqueror, it starts to load the Border Manager page, then says the certificate shouldn't be accepted (because it is signed by the owner). I choose to continue and get a message, the connection to host Border is broken.
