can't configure ethernet adapter

I know this has been discussed a gizillion times here and elsewhere but I can't track down my issue. I have Redhat linux 8.0 installed, seems ti work fine but I can't config the net card and get access to the internet. An obvious newbie, don't know where to start to fix the problem. Any suggestions as to what to do first etc would be appreciated.

uh, start by identifying what network card you have?

do an lspci -v | more

and look for your device.

well I gues it isn't listed, it was working fine when it was a windows box, since installed Linux, added driver can't seem to get it to work.
How do I determine if the card is dead?
