can't access internet via router
I am having trouble accessing the internet through my router. I have internet through a cable modem into a router. I have a Win XP box & linux box hooked to the router. The XP box has no problem (using that now). I have just gotten Suse 9.1personal running and I have been looking at teh manual for setup help.
Following the man:
In DSL configuration I have selected:
Mode - PPoE
Device activation - on boot
Network card configuration:
Automatic address setup (via dhcp)
Choosing 'next' on DSL configuration takes me to options to select an ISP. I did not think I needed to select ISP with a cable connection. I cannot continue or finish setup with out doing this. Am I missing something?
I was thinking I needed to set up Samba but, I am not trying to access the internet through a windows machine, and I am going to worry about printers later.
Using the manual I keep going in circle. I know I am missing something but I don't know what. Any help is GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks

Cable broadband service is different then DSL and does not use pppoe. You need to start over and configure a LAN internet connection. Use DHCP and set the gateway to point to the router's IP address.

No wonder it is not working right. I guess it would help if I looked in the right area! Thanks for the info. I will try that tomorrow. I had to go to work and I am responding from there. I will post my results.
Thanks

Well I keep going around in circles and I have not made it work. I am confused right now. This will seem like a stupid question but, where do I configure DHCP? I am in YAST/Network Services and have tried almost everything to get it set up. Looking at the help manual only confused me more. I figure I have looked at the right place for DHCP but looked over it.
All help is appreciated! Thanks!

I haven't used SuSE in a very long time so I will not be able to assist you with YAST. It is quite common to find just a checkbox that says DHCP somewhere on the configuration page.
Hopefully a SuSE user will chime in with detailed instructions.

I have been looking around the net and I might have found a solution. My ethernet card is: eth-id-00:c0:ca:11:6a:cf and I think it is supposed to be: eht0. Am I right? If so, How do I change it?
If you describe commands for command line entry, Please be specific. I am still very new at this.
Thanks
