can't able to up eth0,..IP conflict (RedHat 9)

I'm using pppoe (adsl-setup) to connect with internetwork...then I disable my nic configuration....

when to access or start any server,I configure the eth0 manually...(/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 or with netconfig)..but it's often disallow to use the same IP i used before...I'm using private IP(192.168.2.192) and i know that none in my lan is using this ip..

so much confused abt it...

plz help...

Is there a reason that you are using Redhat 9? This is very old and unsupported now. Redhat ceased support for RH9 in 2004, and there are no security updates for it anymore.

I suggest that you upgrade to a newer version of Linux if possible. There are many alternatives, such as Fedora Core 6 (direct successor to RH9, just 6 versions newer :)). Ubuntu 6.10 is a good choice for newbies.

It is quite possible that your problems will go away simply by installing a new version of Linux. Even if you get this problem sorted (and your vsftp one :)), the chances are that you will have many more problems, since RH9 is so outdated. It is the equivalent running Windows 95 in 2007, and wondering why things don't work properly..
