calculating Network Latetancy using wireshark


Can any please let me know how is network latency calculated using wireshark??
If possible please let me know step wise
I want to know what parameters are actually checked to calculate the same..

Are you sure latency is the term you are looking for? Latency is the time it takes for a packet to reach the destination and return. Wireshark just sniffs connections, it doesn't actually time when packets are sent from where.

To test latency, you would simply ping a host on the network and note how long it takes to get a response.

The application sends messages over the network so i wanted to check how much time it takes to send a message and get its acknowledgment...

Wireshark detects when you send the package to host x. Wireshark will detect when there will be a reply by host x. Just subtract the timestamps of both events. (You can set time references in ws to ease calculation).
