I've just installed Mandrake 8.2 (download) because I was having real problems setting SuSE 7.3 up for cable modem connection sharing. I heard that Mandrake automates the process up to a point ---
So, I now have Mandrake on my box aswell as SuSE 7.3 and I was impressed with the installation but, having opted for sharing, when I tried to connect using my (yeuch!!) XP laptop, I couldn't get any web pages. IE seemed to be doing more than when with SuSE on my box - it searched for http://xx.xx.xx.xx (all numbers)find the page. Have I missed something? I know that I have!! Help!!
I'm almost there!!
I've never really done this before, but I think the Windows machine needs to be configured to use 192.168.1.1 as a gateway, and the Linux box may need some setup to become the gateway. Can you also ping the Windows machine from the Linux box?
This has been whirling around in my head all night - who needs sleep? My current thought is - *blame* something! Could it be that eth1 has failed in some way? I've never had a problem setting up a w-i-n-d-o-w-s network and I don't see why I should be having trouble now. I'll buy a new card today and test my theory!
