Cable Modem Home Server Setup

Hey guys,

I have some generic questions, I have searched the forum but need a little advice. I am currently setting up a Linux server acting as an internet gateway. I have a cable modem running to the eth0 card on my debian/apache box, then want eth1 to run to my router to connect to my other computers. I've tried a few things but cannot get this quite right (as far as getting the eth1 to connect to the router or a computer directly. If anyone could point me in the direction of a good tutorial that shows how to have a dynamic connection in and set up a static network. I also want to host a web page, but for now I just want this to get up and running. Thanks for any help.

you need to explain what you can and can't do a bit more... what is this router? do you mean a switch instead of a router? can you not even ping between internal nodes?
