First, thank you for your patience with a true newbie question. I just installed Red Hat 9.0 on a dual boot machine (with Win2K), and for the most part, the installation was a breeze. However, the installation did not recognize my integrated network controller, a Broadcom 440x 10/100. I tracked down what in theory was a self-executable installation for the driver. However, the Broadcom controller does not show up in Red Hat's Internet Connection Wizard when I try to set up a new Ethernet connection.
Any suggestions? I would be perfectly happy to perform a manual installation of the driver if someone could provide detailed instructions.
Hi, I am having the same problem. When Red Hat starts up it doesn't find the device eth0 associated with bcm5700 module (which is the broadcom 440x 10/100 driver). I think it has something to do with my modules.conf as in it doesn't have the correct IRQ. Also, when I run insmod bcm5700, it finds the .o but init_mod fails saying that there might be a problem with parameters as IRQ or IO.
Any ideas?
PEACEDOG - I managed to solve the problem - I got the file from the BeBits web site (did a Google search for +"Broadcom 440x" +driver +linux). I also got a hold of a file named bcm4400-2.0.5-1.src.rpm that contained the necessary driver files. Most of my problem stemmed from the fact that I was not doing the installation while logged in as root. As long as I was logged in as anyone else, including "su," the installation would give me errors.
Hi, i also facing the difficulty of having detecting broadcom 440x 10/100 network driver. Would u kind enough to point me the website u download the file ? or kind enough to send me the file directly ? Thanks alot. What do u mean by not doing the installation ?
Regards
Daniel
