broadcom 440 and vtun

At university network, I am able to get internet access via their network. For some reason network connection called tun6to4 are automatically created.

At home the network card doesn't work. The tun network cards disappear. It is connected but almost no data (84 bytes???) is transferred. Ping return that 100% packet loss occurs.

I am referred to the cable connection. The pc has a wireless but I never use it and I don't want to.

If I understand you right, your box accesses the network at school but not at home.

Sounds like you need to configure your home network then. Find out what your school in doing. Is it assigning IP addresses with DHCP or static? How is your home router/network set up? Are the cables at home good, are you trying to hook up to the network at home the same way as school etc? How about a firewall at home? Your going to have to troubleshoot.

"tun6to4" sounds alot like what you get when you are nat-ing from an ipv6 to and ipv4 network. It sounds like your school does ipv6 and your pc is automatically converting you. If 6 to 4 works though, i should think the same network connection would work on a regular ipv4 network, unless you do not ipv4 support installed on your pc(which would be another reason why you would need 6 to 4, if school was 4 and you were 6 only). Verify you have ipv6 and v4 support installed and go from there

Thank you.

How do I verify if the pc has ipv4 support? The pc appears to have ipv6 support, according to ifconfig cammand terminal display.

Do I also have to consider whether the isp (aol broadband) supports ipv4 and/or ipv6?
