i´m fairly new to linux, and am trying to set up my internet config. i connect through a Ethernet Card, but after configuring everything as in the how-to´s i still cant get the internet to work. when i ping the gateway i ge the message
' network is unreachable'.
if anyone can, plz help me, because i need to learn how to do this quickly so i can set up my dad´s small business server.
DO you have a router? What Distro are you using?
Is it Dhcp or Static?
Security do you have to use security to log on?
Have you started init.d?
Do you have nic configured?
i dont exactly know if its ' broadband' i am connected in an office by a network cable to the router. and i tried to ping the pri DNS, but got the message ' network is unreachable'.
Using Red Hat 8

First off you need to find out if you are using DSL ,Cable, T1 or a dedicated line of 56k, 128 or 256k.
What happen when you setup RH8 did it not see your router?
Do you have some sort of security on this network in which you must admin rights to join it? FIREWALL???
I must say that I have runned RH 8 with a router acting as my DHCP server and it worked so well it was frightening eazy.
Again you may have to into RH8 Network settings and make sure your network started. The GUi is self explanitory.

one is a RealTek (eth0) and the other one is a DEC (eth1) i´ve set up the info the building admins gave me except for the host name and domain, because they have a space in their names:
