Hi,

Wasn't sure whether to post this here or the newbie section.... here goes...

I have been running Red Hat 9.0 for a good while now in a dual booting PC with two hard drives (one XP the other RH9).

This PC with it's Red Hat configuration has been connected to the internet via a cable Broadband Modem. Everything was autodetected on install and it has worked like a dream.

I have just recently installed a Netgear WGR614 wireless (although this PC is using a wired port). Everything is fine in XP.

But when I boot up in Red Hat 9 my connection appears to slow down and actually "lock out" and freeze when displaying web pages this coincides with the port activity indicator on the front of my router remaining constant as opposed to flashing on and off. Almost as if I am getting a conflict.

Now I have done very little to configure the network (Linux). The router is set to up as a DHCP server with IP address range of 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.99. I have been doing my setup changes using Network Configuration in the Gnome GUI (So if your answers could reflect that it would be appreciated!).

The network configuration is set up as follows: Auto obtain IP with DHCP, Auto Obtain DNS info from provider is checked.

Now this is what is confusing me a little : The DNS tab shows the following : Prim DNS 194.168.4.100 and Sec DNS 194.168.8.100 and host name as localhost.localdomain. If I remove these settings I cannot access the internet at all. Do I need these settings if I am obtaining an IP address from my router? If I don't how come everything fails when I remove them.....

I feel I have just got my wires crossed here and I am missing something.... Can anyone help?

When you try to use a domain name such as yahoo.com your computer sneds a querys to a resolving nameserver asking "hat is the numeric ip address of yahoo.com?"
