Angry Borked my ethernet on RHEL4 Dell Latitude D820

I'm running RHEL4 on a Dell Latitude D820. Actually, it is a dual boot with WinXP.

Anyway, somehow I managed to bork up my ethernet . When I boot up I have this:

tg3 device eth0 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization

I have the tg3 Broadcom driver module. I see it when I run lsmod. I put an entry in /etc/modprobe.conf:
alias eth0 tg3

I've tried running the various network config tools to no avail.

Question: When I first installed, SOMETHING must have looked at the available hardware and set things up.

How do I run that? What is it? How do I run whatever it is and overwrite all the config stuff with the correct values?

I'm about to reinstall .

Thank you in advance.
