basic networking topology question

There's an extensive existing network here. It doesn't seem to be organized very well and has been modified a few times in the past couple of years.

We are planning on restructuring it again. I would like to just do an ordinary wiring diagram/network topology chart.

I've search around for a better-than-decent guide for this. I figured out the basics, but I was just wondering if anyone knew of a decent site, tutorial or program for such a thing.

Thanks

You can draw a map using dia there's a good chance you've got already got it on your system, just looked at it and it's got lost of network symbols on it, maybe of some use. Add the appropriate symbols and draw lines to connect them :) I don't know if you're asking for network design advice or not but use switches over hubs all the time if possible.

Apologies that I'm not actually recommending any particular sites.

Thanks for your help--I'm definately going to use Dia.

I was looking for a reference as to what constitutes certain things, (ie gateway node), so that I could classifty and label things correctly. And also look at some good examples so that I make sure I put everything in order. But, I think I've read enought to where I can wing it.

Yeah, I don't need help yet in designing, but we do have 6 new switches(3 daisy chained) which replaced some hubs, and a few patch panels to sort out.

If anyone else has some suggestions, that would be great.
