Check the permissons on the adsl-start script.

Edit: Also check the users path includes the location of the adsl-start script

(as root)
to find the location of adsl-start, and show its permissions
Code:
# ls -l $(which adsl-start)
to show the path.
Code:
# echo $PATH
Making sure that the location given from the 1st command, is listed in the second, and that the permissions for adsl-start are a+x, or g+x for only users in a specific group to be able to execute it.
