Bandwidth Limitation Problems

Hi,
Iam doing Bandwidth tests using NIST Net. If the source and
Destination are on different machines and the NIST Net is at the
destination machine and I applied Bandwidth Limitation using NIST Net then
it is working fine.
But if both Source and Destination are on the same
machine and NIST Net is also running on the same machine then the results
are not what I expected.

source : localhost Destination : localhost

-------------------------------------------------------
Bandwidth Limitation o/p Bandwidth
applied using NIST Net
-------------------------------------------------------
1 MB/sec 4.8 MB/sec

2 MB/sec 9.58 MB/sec

4 MB/sec 19.21 MB/sec

8 MB/sec 38.42 MB/sec

-------------------------------------------------------

It is approximately 5 times the expected value.

I did the tests using 'netperf' and 'bw_tcp'. In both cases iam
getting the above results.
Why this is happening ? Can some one help me ?

Sridhar.

Someone help me if I'm in error, but do the packets even leave the machine when they are directed at 'localhost'??

If this is the case, then your results would be skewed.

Hi edcutis,
The packets are not leaving the machine when they are directed at 'localhost'.
