bandwidth is very low openswan ipsec tunnels

Hi all,

i created ipsec tunnels between 4 of my servers in different geo locations, as below

R1 >> R2 >> R3 >> R4

iperf bandwidth results as below

R1 >> R2 = 90 Mbps
R2 >> R3 = 90 Mbps
R3 >> R4 = 50 Mbps (actual link speed also 50 Mbp)

now issue is when i test traffic between R1 >> R3 it is showing around 48 Mbps,
bandwidth between R1 >> R4 is 15 Mbps.
Quote:
why bandwith is being reduced after every hop, is it happenin when traffic is forwarding from one tunnel to another tunnel.
pleae help me how to solve it.

One thing to consider is the overhead on the servers. Example, R1 >> R4, processing R2 and R3 adds a degree of overhead if there are some kind of processing.

Hi ilesterg,

thanks for reply,

there are no process, cpu, hardware interrupts, software interrupts are almost 0%, some times .5% or 1%. i installed iptraff.
Quote:
iptraff shows
Quote:
incoming traffic is 25350 kbps and outgoing as 11456 kbps, incoming packets 3120 and outgoing as 1564
, i don't understand where the hell rest of the packets going.
please help me, if i could get answer for this almost i'm solved the issue.

What encryption and hashing you are using between all tunnels?
