Backup Windows boxes externally (over WAN)

Hi guys. At work I was asked to think about non commercial solutions for external backup. We are located in Vienna and we have a partner in poland where we could set up a storage server.
Now from the top of my head I thought about setting up a machine in Poland running Linux and Samba. Now is it viable possibility to set up our local backup software to save the backup in the Samba drive mounted on the Windows machines?

Pros and Cons? Ideas?

At this point i would have:
Pros:
-Easy to set up
-secure enough for our needs
-Backup tool runs automatically

Cons:
-Bandwidth of course but we can schedule the backup to weekends
-Unreliable. May crash or fail if unattended
-Never done that --> no experience

Thanks for any comments, suggestions, critic or ideas.

Regards.

Centi.

Without being overly verbose about it, have a look at rsync, combine it with cron and for added security, make it go over stunnel or something like that.
Do the initial replication/backup at one site, then ship the disk to the other, saves on bandwidth.
