b4312 card not working with b43-fwcutter

Ok the title says it all really, i carn't get the wireless card to be recognised when using the b43-fwcutter firmware, it works ok using the bcmw-kernel-source (STA), but i don't want to use that one (if i can help it- even thow it is better), please help if you can and in the mean time i will continue to try and figure it out myself. thanks....!
Sorry the computer it's on is a DELL INSPIRON 1545, using karmic 9.10, ( it was the same under bt4 distro),
iwconfig = eth0 no wireless extentions
lo " no wireless extentions"
it is proberbly something real simple, i just need more experiance....!

I have the same laptop, and I'm pretty sure it needs both to work? I can't remember the process I used though...

Try reading this page.

It keeps crashing now after i re-boot it crashes (the driver),i got it working by upgrading to 10.04, but it just kills off the wireless after a reboot and i have to install from scratch...
ALL ADVICE WELCOME...., or if you know were it's documented and i can learn some more- nothing is ever simple with linux but i've learned more about computing in 6 months on linux than a lifetime on windows..

I have a broadcom 4312, although the Pci Bus ID says it is a 4315.

If you have one of these cards, I don't think any of the legacy drivers (b43) will work.
I think you may have to use the STA driver. I used this driver (no firmware seems to be required).
I used the wext driver and wpa-supplicant for it, and it works fine.
Prior to the STA driver being released, I had to use ndiswrapper to get it to work with windows drivers.
I have dispensed with that and now use the STA driver.

I've got a 4312 card, and it works much better using Broadcom's STA driver. You might give it a try.

The OP has edited his post at #5 to say "Problem sorted".

Meanwhile, he has started another thread here.

Akitta, please don't do this (abandon threads, and then start new ones with, essentially, the same subject), and please do not go back and edit your posts so that the thread no longer makes sense, because of the edits you have made: Just add an extra post, to the end of the thread, explaining what the situation is.

If you MUST make an edit, it is considered polite to make it clear, perhaps like this:
EDIT: I forgot to say ..... /EDIT

Thanks

Red face

Ok i get it and sorry, didn't relise it was all jumbled and all over the place,

My problem is ongoing the b43-driver does work but it keeps crashing as soon as i need to reboot, but i have nearly done everything i can find even using compat-wireless (wich works great, it just needs "modprobe b43" every boot up, i can live with that but it woun't monitor on a specific channel).
I tried to change wireless-card today from a dell 1520 a b4311 but it was to big (why don't i just use the 1520 ? screen is broke)
Sorry for nearly repeat posting tredegar

I'm trying to get it to work with aircrack (not for illigal purposes), but when i'm using the bleeding edge driver it's always stuck on channel -1, and when it's installed using package manager (b43-fwcutter) it just crashes after a re-boot, i think i'm going to swap the cards i tried yesterday with a dell 1520 but the card was to big, i've even upgraded the kernel to 2.6.33 it's just not having it...!
i suppose no-one will help me now i mentioned aircrack, everyone always assumes your trying to have someone in, we do live in a state of paranoia (no wonder everyones ill)

Well, you're not asking for help with aircrack, so your questions are perfectly legit and I doubt the mods would have a problem with them.

Now that said, aircrack has only one purpose (and a pretty useless one at that), so you shouldn't be surprised if people assume that is what you're using it for.

It's only for a bet with my neighbour he don't beleave i can do it (wich i carn't because this stupid wireless card woun't do as it's told), it should work i don't understand why it keeps crashing, i'm not buying new card to just prove point to neighbour the bet is only £20 it cost that much to buy card, (still i rather have new card than pay him £20 - i lose £20 either way), i knew you go funny asoon as i mentioned aircrack....lol!

I've got a broadcom chip here 4311 but it's to big for this computer the one in here is nearly half the size in length (is there no way of getting it to fit? - or could i use it with it hanging out? - risky i know)

Your neighbour might be right, and win the bet.

I don't think it would be proper for us to help you further, because you bet that you could "do it".
