Smile Available networks but no able to connect on Puppy Linux with Broadcom B4312

Hey guys, I'm running Puppy Linux from a SD card on a netbook and there wasn't any drivers for the wireless adapter so I went online and found a module for my Broadcom B4312. The module is already installed and when I go to check for available networks I'm able to see my network and a neighbour's network. The problem: I can't connect to my network, which has a WPA2 Passphrase protection. Theoretically this driver won't allow Puppy to link with WPA2 protected networks so I changed the protection to a WEP one and even like this it won't connect.

Does anybody know what the problem might be?

Hi nicolasjengler, Welcome to LQ. What driver did you download and install? Where did you get it? Did you also install and configure wpa supplicant?

Good luck. ;-)

I think that this device is supported with the b43 kernel module. You may not need to build a hybrid driver. You will need to install bw43-fwcutter to cut out the firmware from a windows driver.

Post the results of "lspci -v" and "lspci -n" for the device. The results of the first command will have the PCI address in the first column. The lscpi -n will provide the manufactures ID for your wireless device.

Also provide your kernel version. If your kernel is older than the device, it may not be supported by the corresponding LKM.

It worked. The suggestion provided in the second reply figured it out for me (had to install a few *.pet packages first, like dotpuphandler, though).
