I'm currently tasked to jump in on the development of our dns frontend. It's at a webserver that saves its changes at a postgresql database. The admin then opens the admin part of the frontend for any changes requested by the applicants, approves them, saves them to database and finally applying the changes manually to the dns server.

My job is to automate the updates being done to the dns server. That is, to poll the database for any changes and applies it automatically to the zonefile. How should I go about this??

I've received suggestions to use cron + perl for the job. Will this do?

I'm still new to this dns thing, I'd appreciate any tips/suggestions

I think perl and cron would do this fine. A perl script that takes the current DNS info from the database and commits it to the config files on the running DNS server.
