Authenticating with Windows server

Ive searched google/wikipedia and forums, but really havent solved my problem yet: I have to use a windows 2003 server as a domain controller ( I assume that means i need to use Active Directory), with user authenticating and external "home directories", with the desktops resetting to original state after a user logs out.

I know halfway how it should work for the end user (as Ive been one myself), but no idea of how to set it up. As before mentioned, Im in(going to set up) a X-OS network, with XP and Linux Desktops, and a Win2k3/win2k server, and i would really appreciate if someone could help me with some useful links or info, that be on how to set it up, and how it is working internally, and basics(nearly everything), as I had problems understanding the total on wikipedia

thanks in advance

that should step you through it, just disregard anytime it says to 'emerge' something, it just means that you need that application installed.

thanks, will try out tomorrow, and post if everything works

[edit]
This was necessary info for a test I had at school, but the day after this post, I was informed that I was not allowed to use linux on any of the computers (or actually, that I had to use M$ Win).
