attempting to subsist

hi i'm new to linux even though i've it for 5 months, i've not accomplished what i set out to do.

i would like to network a computer with red hat with a computer with Windows ME, horrible OS, i know, but i need the files off of it.

i have a linksys router, i thought that it would be useful in this venture.

if you'd like to tell me to give up or any other advice, i'd appreciate it.

thanks

Samba is the software to do it,
it's difficult at times but reliable...
Swat is the maintenance tool via a browser...
Start looking at www.samba.org
then search here for problem questions...

Peter

oh god, you're really trying drive me insane now....more software huh? i think i have samba actually, now what do i do with it?

Browse to port 901 on that machine and have a good read of the configuration help docs.
The default "/etc/samba/smb.conf" file for samba makes great reading, as well as the HOWTOs at www.tldp.org
then search here for the questions you have, eg "samba + password"

You will find there are things you MUST know, or you will be asking for Prozac.

Peter
