Atheros Communication Device 1083 not working on Linux mint

I bought a new desktop computer without an OS.
I installed Linux Mint as the only OS.
There is no internet connection.
The Atheros Communication Device 1083 does not work.

uname -a shows

Linux myname-desktop 2.6.32-21-generic #32 -Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 16 08:10:02 UTC 2010 i686/Linux.

I have downloaded and unpacked AR81 Family-Linux -v1.0.0.10.tar
with the understanding that the correct driver is in this tar.

However I am not sure which driver to install. Also, I am not sure how to
install a driver.

Am I on the right path?

The user had to change kernels to get that card to work. You may not need to do that. It shows the correct driver, how to tell if it is loaded and commands to activate the card.

See how far you can get with the information there, and post any questions you may have.
