You need digium card(s)
if you want to connect a T1 / E1 line

Or even if you want to connect the asterisk card to a PBX / Telephone Handset.

You can also terminate your Service Provider { like BSNL / MTNL } to the Card and then dial to the asterisk box from any where.

There are some commercial solutions that you mite want to look at for the what they could be used for

Look at some commercial solution, or have some one do it for you. Managing this would be quite starinous if you dont know know how to .. or f you are a beginer.

You would need a variant of TDM2400P series depending exactly on your needs.
