ARP resolve

Hi All,

I have one question about ARP.I have two boards connected with each other each having two ports and connected back to back in a loop. By using a protocol i am breaking the loop and i am able to ping boards from each one console. Now like on one board one port is up and other is down (protocol does this for me to braek loop),when i make port up which is previously down and other one down down which is previously up, my ping stops and resumes after 30 ping losses and sometimes doesn't resume at all.I have checked with arping also but it still have same result.

I want to know how should i proceed so that ping or arping doesn't stop at all and my connectivity will be maintained at all time .

I'm guessing you're trying to create some kind of HA (high availability) setup, if this is the case then you probably want the active node to be sending gratuitous arps when the interface comes up. This forces systems on the same network segment (including switches) to update their arp cache and address traffic accordingly.
