Are you allowed to:

Hi,

I've been wondering myself. I see many people with their own webserver, with bind apache mysql php control panel etc. And they also created their own domain. Now i was wondering are you actually allowed to create you're own domain name on your own server? I live in holland and we have a company called SIDN where you have to register in order to be allowed to create your own domain names.. wether it be .com .nl .be .biz .net etc.

This costs 150€ per 3 months.

Are rules for this different somewhere else ? Or is everyone just a member of companies like SIDN ?

Thanks.

you can be microsoft.com on your private network if you want, it's how everyone else access that at stake here. the act of adding a domain name to a machine, doesn't mean you know ARE that domain...

Please use thread titles that are more informative: i think this thread should be moved to general.

for your question: you have to pay for your personal domain name if you want to have one. prices might differ in different parts of the world.

vivek
