Are the integrated IBM 300PL NICs Linux compatible?

Ok, my 2nd box is (as you could have guessed) a p3-550mhz IBM 300PL with 160mb of ram. I installed fc2 (which probably has the best hardware recognition out there besides knoppix) and on eth0 is always not found. The error is Attempting to assign IP (or something to that effect).....FAILED. I am not sure if it is a fc2 issue or IBM issue. I looked it up on linuxcompatible and everything checked out. It could be an issue with my switch, or my ISP for high speed (Earthlink may only allow only one connection for residential). I do have a old 3com 5903 ISA card I could put in and check out. So any thoughts and possible workarounds? Thanks.

If you type the command: neat a small GUI tool should pop up. Look under the hardware tab to see if the device is listed. Also, under the Devices tab, you could edit the device from optain address automatically to putting one in manually to see if you have a dhcp issue.

If the nic did not show up in the hardware tab, run the command:
scanpci and look for the nic in the list. You will need the vendor id and device id when you go looking for a linux driver.

I also have a 300PL but it is undoubtedly older. It has an integrated Ethernet Pro 100 and it's detected automatically by slackware 10.0.

I had a similar 300pl at work that I was having trouble with and I ended up turning on the network card in the bios. The problem went away :-)

lspci should list the device, on mine it listed it as:
00:03.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corp. 82557/8/9 [Ethernet Pro 100] (rev 05)

Again, there are so many different versions of the 300pl that this might or might not work for you. I assume fc2 comes with lspci.

Slackware 10.0 uses a stock 2.4.26 kernel.
