apache root directory problem

hey guys,

i just enabled my apache server and everythings running fine except i can't seem to get it to recognize my index.html file on the root directory (which is /var/www/html/). Does it not look for the index.html file atuomatically or what?

Thanks for any advice

It will look for the files specified in your DirectoryIndex directive in order.
