apache 2.0 in RH9

Hey,

I've finally setup my apache server in RH9.
I got this welcome msg saying that it is working and I should replace the page blah blah.

Well, so I've put up my stuff. in the root directory
/var/www/html/

index.shtml is the file I want it to be access when I type in

for ex. localhost

but when I type in localhost
the same welcome msg comes out.

Do I need to tweek in a way so that the default site is index.shtml?

I've tried editing the directory search listing in the RH9 http server configuration.

Also I need to know how to setup a permission level to 755.
I am a newbie to linux. (since previous server operating system was win2000)

I have no idea in changing the CHMOD permission level 755.

Thanks,

-Tom-

You might want to check your httpd.conf as well, maybe index.shtml is not in the Documents setting?
