Unhappy AOL instant messenger via cascaded Squid

I have a Redhat 6.2 server running squid. When I try to connect to AOL IM from a client machine running Win 98, it refuses me a connection. For the proxy server, I am using the IP address of the downstream squid server, the one on my LAN. Are there any ports that I need to open up on my Linux server, or is it a problem with the upstream proxy.

TIA

Ploblom Child
