Another Internet Sharing Question - DSL, Windows and Linux
 

Good day Everyone

At present i have the following connected to 1 ethernet hub, 1 Wireless (Iburst) DSL Modem, 1 x Suse 9.3 Pro desktop and 1 x Windows XP home Desktop.

The XP dials up and shares the connection.

I want to get my Suse as a web server with Dynamic IP. The easiest (I thought) was to have suse share the connection with windows.

Can someone please tell me how i can share the Connection from suse concidering i have only 1 network card in the machine at the moment? Should i get a second network card?
Should i just buy a router?
Can i leave everything as is at the moment and just tell windows to forward all http requests through to Suse?

Any help you can provide will be appriciated.

I think in your mentioned constelation the only way would be to forward all port 80 http requests from your Windows machine to your Linux box. I don't know if Windows' Internet Connection Sharing is capable of this, but maybe you'll find some other Windows shareware to do that task...
Or you'll try it the other way round and make the SuSE desktop your dial-in machine. That way you wouldn't have to forward anything. As I'm not using SuSE, I don't know how to configure it, but I think it should be possible from within yast?

I am looking at making the Suse the Dialup. All the sharing solutionsi have found so far involve 2 network cards or a router.

If there is anyway to share with the configuration of 1 ethernet hub with 1 DSL mode, 1 Suse machine and 1 XP machine connected to it please let me know.

Im lost, you say you have dsl, but then you say that a computer dials up, do you mean dial up like a 56k modem over the phone line?

What happens is one computer has to establish a connection throught the Iburst DSL Modem, i.e. Dialup. The modem does now allow more than one connection at a time, therefore it acts like a Dialup modem plugged into a Ethernet Switch opperating at 1Mb/s
