Alcatel speedtouch 330 usb problems

I have been trying to install the speedtouch 330 in suse, slackware, fedora, ipcop and red hat with no luck.

I have narrowed the problem down to the usb port. when trying to upload the mgmt.o I get the following messages:

I have tried it on 3 machines one with ohci and the other 2 with uhci.

Any ideas?

I've the same modem and the same USB error message.

It's working more or less correctly though, so I think that you can safely ignore this error and search further...

Some tips?

- try the 2.6 kernel, it has the speedtouch driver build-in
- check your settings, especially the vci/vpi (different in almost each country)
- search this site for some inspiration
- search google

You've probably done all this, but that's about what I can give you now.
I had so many headaches with it, that I considered buying a new _ethernet_ modem.
If I can figure out how it works, I'll post something in the wiki or something, 'cos a lot people seem to have problems with this £$&*(@~!! USB modem. Or maybe one of those nice gurus out there can? Helloooo, guuuuruuuuu???;-)
Or do they all have ethernet modems?

Cheers

I have the silver version of this modem working with Mandrake 9.2 and 10.0. I know that once you've uploaded the firmware once since you've connected it, you dont need to again and that attempts to will fail as above. You should only need to then issue a command like pppd call adsl. :)
