After win xp boot, no ip address

Well, I thought this one was fixed but now I know exactly what happens. By the way, I am running slackware 10.2 and kernel version 2.6.16.9 recompiled to include support for the nforce ethernet driver and sound blaster card.

Anyway I was using linux and on the internet just fine. I rebooted and went into windows xp. When again I came back to linux, thats when dchpcd will not acquire an ip address. I've tried passing an ether="10,0x2000,eth0" since these parameters were the ones active when the system worked to no avail. So after booting into windows xp and coming back to linux, I now have no network.

I guess if I leave my machine off for a while, I might be able to regain access; however, I'm only speculating.

I've gone back and used the dhcpcd command with various switches but doesn't work either. I'm lost here; I know for a fact that a resintall of slackware will not cure the problem. Help!!

Hi Jflinux,

May be you have selected to get ip address from dhcp server while you installed linux. You just need to remove that option. Before doing that can you post output of the following:-

ifconfig

And also you may try playing around with file:-

/etc/sysconfig/networking/device/ifcfg-eth0
/etc/sysconfig/networking/device/ifcfg-eth1 or any no.

You just have to delete a line which contains DHCP

Bye
