Hello . I just installed opensuse 42.1 Leap on my new Laptop Asus x553m from USB . I pulgged in Ethernet cabel and it shows that I get IP from DHCP client 10.*.*.*
But i Can't access internet . I tried to sudo systemctl start NetworkManager but it did not help. I decided to try Centos and the same thing it shows that I am getting IP and all settings from dhcp but somehow it does not work.
WHen I ping my ip I get norm response and the same for default gateway
Help Please!!!!
Did you check your routing?
How exactly are you determining that you have no internet access?
Have you been able to get internet access before, or from a different device?
What is your router, and can you verify that IT has access to the internet?
Are your nameservers set when you make the connection? What is your /etc/resolv.conf looking like?
Have you read the post about how to ask intelligent questions?
Thanks for response and sorry for being not intelligent (( . Here is the story.
I have PC and notebook (asus x53m)
MY pc internet is running on Ethernet cabel. Two days ago I installed opensuse on my notebook(before it was windows and was working fine as) and try to connect but it hanged . I pinged 8.8.8.8 and it just stuck no reply at all.
So I came to home and try to use Ethernet and when I plugged in it shows that it is working (getting IP ,Default route and etc..)
And today I decided to try Centos .During installation install manager found my network settings and everything was correct. But after installation I got the same problem. I do not have /etc/resolve.conf I am so stupid!!!. I guess the problem is that file. Isn't it??
Sorry for disturbing . How properly I can configure it ???
Thanks again
EDIT#1 after adding resolv.conf with this content still no effect
nameserver 10.72.23.1
nameserver 91.103.*.18
nameserver 91.103.*.18
nameserver 8.8.8.8
Could you open a terminal session and run the command
Code:
ifconfig -a
and post the output in a CODE block?
Can you tell me if NetworkManager (NM) is installed?
Clearly something is not being properly detected.
Normally, NetworkManager would detect the network, do the DHCP thing, populate /etc/resolve.conf etc. On my systems I disable NM and configure network manually, but that is atypical. It looks like DHCP failed, but that may be deceptive. Look for errors in dmesg and /var/log/messages.
