Unhappy ADSL + GATEWAY Redhat Linux 9.0


Hi All,
I'm trying to setup a new gateway with firewall. I have 2 NIC cards , eth0 and eth1. eth0 will be used to connect to our internal network (10.0.5.x) while eth1 will be used to connect to the internet.

I want to transfer the existing configuration on a new linux box. (redhat 9.0).
But my problem is i don't know how to setup the connection to internet. I tried to use the /sbin/adsl-setup and i supplied values for the ff:

username :
password :
NIC : eth1
DNS1 : 203.172.11.21
DNS2 : 203.172.11.25

These are the values when i run the "route" command. Please tell me how to come up with this kind of gateway setup.

i cannot understand. u have an adsl modem which has ethernet interface? and your linux connects it trough NIC. right? so u dont need ppp interface. all u have to do is configure your NICs.

I have a like setup, two NIC's, one to internal LAN the other to Internet. In my case, the second NIC is connected to an xDSL Modem. So, I am using the ADSL-SETUP script to establish the connection. Here is what I had to do, hope it helps.

Ensure that the Eth1 NIC is not being brought up during the boot. The ADSL-START script will take care of this.

Run the ADSL-SETUP script supplying the values as requested. Note: In most cases the account and password values will be case sensitive.

Once that is complete run ADSL-START, this will invoke the ADSL-CONNECT script. If you set it up correctly the system will return to a command prompt. Try issusing ADSL-STATUS, this should show you the status of the PPPx connection. You could also issue IFCONFIG, you should see all of your interfaces, including the ETH1. Note: the ETH1 interface will not have an IP Address, you would reference the one on the PPPx Interface.

I can tell you that RH9 uses the Roaring Penguin PPPoE product for this type of connection. You can find additional information at the following site. Best of luck....

Hi All,
I've already tested the configuration, I followed the instructios above, the ppp0 is up and running, but when i try to issue command

$ ping www.yahoo.com, it can't see the yahoo.com.

And also, a stranged ip is displayed when i issue the command route, where do you think the problem? I haven't configured 169.254.0.0 on the eth0
